This was supposed to be a big year for Blu-ray. Prices are coming down; and explosive HD TV sales were expected to boost the high-definition DVD format.

Still, shipments may not peak for another five or six years, according to Singulus CEO Stefan Bauster. (Bauster's call is based on the fact that Singulus sells equipment that is used to make Blu-ray players.)

Funny enough, while Bauster expects a peak in five years, others have predicted Blu-ray's demise in the same time frame.

"I think [Blu-ray] has 5 years left, I certainly wouldn't give it 10,"
said Andy Griffiths, Samsung UK's consumer electronics director, told
