We're getting our first look at the new Ricky Gervais animated series coming to HBO in 2010, and it's looking a little on the lazy side.
The show is a visual version of the record-setting Gervais podcast that brought the world its only round-headed, shaven monkey, Karl Pilkington. That sounds enjoyable enough, as the bizarre workings of Pilkington's mind had millions laughing through the various versions of his work with Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
But the preview above reveals basic animated segments of laid atop old audio. If you're a fan of the various Pilkington and Co. volumes, you've most likely heard these remarks before. Will fans be willing to tune in to see familiar bits just because basic animation enters the equation? Should Gervais have recorded new bits to bring veteran fans into the HBO fold? We'll find out when the show premieres Feb. 19.
