The Ridley Scott sci-fi epic Prometheus inspired a lot of mixed reviews last year from both critics and fans of the Aliens franchise, and snarkmeisters Jeremy Scott and Christopher Atkinson have returned to point out everything wrong with the movie in a concise four-minute video, embedded as an exclusive first look above,
The two nitpicking film nerds from Nashville have pulled in nearly 2 million YouTube views with their series of hilarious hit jobs tear apart movies like The Amazing Spider-Man, The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. The new entry in their Cinema Sins series, "Everything Wrong With Prometheus in 4 Minutes or Less," blows apart plot holes in Ridley Scott's sci-fi epic.
The duo may take joy in ridiculing weak links in works by heavyweight filmmakers like Joss Whedon, Chris Nolan and Ridley Scott but that doesn't mean they hate the movies they mock.
"Cinema Sins isn't about correcting anyone," said Scott. "It's about having fun with the movies we love, including their flaws and shortcomings. If you take everything we say seriously, then yeah, we're a couple of miserable, sour jerks. But look a little harder and you can see we're just having fun."
Scott adds, "We think directors like Christopher Nolan or Joss Whedon would see the playfulness in what we're doing. But maybe not. Maybe Joss Whedon wants to punch me in the face. But I doubt it."
To create a typical "Everything That's Wrong" video, Scott and Atkinson watch Blu-ray versions of the targeted movie at least three times, taking notes and writing down time stamps for targeted scenes. "Then we throw it into the editor and start cutting," Scott told Wired by e-mail. "We have a little group of our friends that acts as our focus group audience. If there are any last minute changes from that, we tweak and then launch."
Scott cites Mystery bet365体育赛事 Theater 3000 as a key influence while admitting to a brief fling with stand-up. Scott said, "I am not a stand-up comic, or comedy writer, but I always wanted to be both. I guess I did some stand-up in college, but I can barely remember how bad the jokes were."
Although director/provocateur Kevin Smith tweeted about CinemaSins' recent Dark Knight Rises take down, Scott and Atkinson have not yet heard from any of the filmmakers they've roasted. Scott figures the directors can take a joke. "We're pumping it way up in the videos," he noted. "Anyone that truly watches movies with this level of criticism has probably lost their ability to have fun at the movies. We're trying to walk that line between funny observations and legitimate criticism."
