“Digital transformation” is one of those terms that has been around in the business world for a long time. Yet few businesses really understand it enough to effectively enact real digital change—in fact, more than 70 per cent of digital transformation projects fail. So how can organisations achieve real digital transformation that benefits the customer, the business, and—most of all—actually works?
Luke Vinogradov, head of digital transformation at technology consultancy Thoughtworks and WIRED’s senior writer, Morgan Meaker explore why, in order to create effective digital change, businesses should stop focusing purely on digital transformation technology.
“New technology creates new opportunity, but also new threats because no one organisation can absorb all of that new tech,” says Vinogradov. Questioning whether the technology is actually benefitting the customer and the current market is key to undergoing successful digital transformation.
Vinogradov looks at the “evolutionary organisation” highlighting the need for the people within the organisation to ask those questions, stating that this is “a big part of change.” Whilst technology remains at the forefront of organisations in the digital age, Vinogradov says that “technology doesn't exist on its own. Organisations create value through human, organisational and technological efforts."
