WIRED puts Bentley and Naim's 'loudest ever' SUV stereo to the test

The new Bentley Bentayga luxury SUV is impressive, with 600bhp, and a top speed of 187mph from a new 6.0L W12 engine. This power plant manages to move the hefty Bentayga, all 2,422kg of it, from 0 to 60mph in just four seconds.

The car is also the most teched-up Bentley WIRED has seen, with clever extras such as a night-vision package that allows the driver to see much further than the headlights would allow thanks to a dashboard display showing the infra-red images.

However, thanks to a top-of-the-range stereo system from Naim, the £160,000 Bentayga also has the most powerful hi-fi of any SUV on the market, too.

Let’s run through the stats: 1,960 watts, a 21-channel amplifier and 20 speakers including nine combined mid-range and tweeters, four advanced bass speakers and a 300-watt sub-woofer. Two super tweeters extend high frequencies, giving the system supposedly the widest frequency range ever experienced in a car. WIRED particularly like the active bass transducers, or seat shakers, which augmenting the audio experience by vibrating the seats so that low frequencies are not only heard, but felt as well. WIRED just had to try this system out for itself.

See how we felt in person, in our hands-on video.
