Andre Iguodala Talks Tech on and off the Court
Released on 06/26/2015
NBA Champion.
Finals MVP.
Andre Iguodala, thanks for coming to Wired.
Thanks.
Thanks for, we're psyched to have you here.
We're huge fans, so we're very excited about this.
Sounds like a good introduction.
So, where do the Warriors rank
in terms of technology in the league?
I would say overall,
we're the most tech-savvy team.
Guys using devices, being tech-forward.
Our guys are pretty on it.
Tell me a little bit about sort of,
when you go to practice every day.
How does the science and tech
sort of loop in to what you guys are doing?
Yeah, so our team does a really good job of,
how can maximize our players' potential?
They use all three components combined.
So the sports would you, the mega wave, and a catapult.
And they say, Andre's kind of sluggish,
he may need a day off from practice, for sure.
And if I'm still a little sluggish, they'll say,
we may need to sit you for a game or two,
just to get you back on track.
We had a lot of depth, a lot of guys who can play.
So throughout the season, we were smart with minutes.
And that was huge for us.
You saw we won a lot of games by 15-plus points.
The stats show the longer a guy plays,
the more prone he is to get injured.
So, when our minutes are down, we're fresher.
We can play harder for shorter bursts.
We have so many guys, we can just keep
running them in and out.
And it showed, how our strength in numbers
were in our favor late in the season.
How does technology play a role
in your life off the court?
So I'm looking for the next platforms
that are really innovative.
That can help engage in a community,
making our lives easier.
One company, for instance, Twice,
is an e-commerce marketplace for second-hand clothing.
Each clothing has a journey
and I just really enjoy the process
and seeing how it works, and
I've been able to come in as the men's style director.
(laughter)
[Mark] What's in your gadget bag?
When you pack for a trip,
what do you have to have with you?
So my gadget bag, I usually have my ipads
and I have my MacBook and my cell phoness.
And our cell phoness are important
because we have our group text as a team
and we're all playing Pineapples right now.
That's the game, so...
We won the championship, so it worked.
We were so into Pineapples, we'd come in at halftime...
And play Pineapples?
I've got match against Draymond,
I've got to put my cards together
to make sure I beat him.
Andre Iguodala, congratulations.
Thanks for coming in, we'll be pulling for those
back-to-back titles next season.
Thank you.
(jazz music)
