(ambient piano melody)

Hey guys.

Peter Rubin, Senior editor at Wired,

here with the stars of what is, for my money,

the best sketch show on television,

Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele

of Key & Peele.

Season three is coming September 18th on Comedy Central.

So you guys have worked together for years now.

Started on MAD TV, broke out,

and are doing your own thing.

What can we expect in season three?

There's carryover.

For fans of the show, who's coming back?

It's funny that you say carryover.

You're gonna see the president, Luther, again.

Most of them, they're gonna make an appearance.

Just about every character

that people have told us they want back,

we're bringing back.

[Peter] Donkey Teeth?

Donkey Teeth will be back.

You will see Donkey Teeth in some capacity.

Excellent.

You will see him.

I was gonna ask, have you guys done Comic Con before?

This is our first time. First time.

So how's it been coming to the Mecca of that?

I would say it's been delightfully overwhelming.

(laughter)

It was strange because we would totally be here

as complete fan boys

but we're coming in here with a show,

so we can't completely just geek out

and go out on the floor, I think,

without some sort of mask or something.

What are your kinda individual strong suits

in the geek world?

In the geek world?

Well, I'm the video gamer.

We share a lot of things.

We love Game of Thrones.

We're both Game of Thrones guys.

Like huge Game of Thrones guys.

Aliens, we talk about aliens a lot.

Yeah we just saw what we thought

was the coolest costume

and Jordan has been spending the last 20 minutes

trying to beat this costume.

I think he's already done it.

I just saw a red shirt, an original Star Trek red shirt

with a face hugger,

with an Aliens facehugger on his face.

Like a mashup.

Straight mashup.

And then a little sign on his chest

that said Free Hugs.

Pretty bad ass.

Perfect.

Can I pitch a couple at you though

and see if--

[Peter] Bring it.

I am certainly in a position to green light things.

So let's--

Blade in an orange prison jumpsuit.

You had me at Blade.

(laughter)

Lando Calrissian, half burnt like Two-Face.

You in deep cut is talking straight up

Harvey Dent pre-burn,

original Batman movie.

The artist formerly known as Prince Charming.

Okay that's nice.

That's nice.

Hit him with the other one.

Hit him with the Key and Peele one.

Jar Jar.

Oh we were talking about Jar Jar in a tux in black face.

Right?

It's double black face is what it is.

In a way. Yeah, certainly.

I don't know if I can come back from that.

(laughing)

To be perfectly honest.

So season three, you have kind of expanded the scope

by bringing in people who are actually in

other genre shows.

[Keegan] Yes.

Who are some of these cameos and guest stars?

David Giuntoli was the star of Grimm.

Actually, we're doing a zombie sketch

where Jordan and I are both playing guys

who are extras in some kind of Walking Dead type show

and David is the star of that show.

So there's us doing our character thing in a zombie genre

with another guy from a fairytale genre.

It's a mashup central.

So the thing that sets the show apart,

just to Stan out for a little bit,

is that the production values,

the work that goes into making it look good

is just out of control.

There's the script and then there's making it look like

you spent millions and millions of dollars on it.

How do you make that happen?

Where's the--

From the beginning, we were obsessed with this

idea of doing genres right,

of just jumping off from...

Just done as well as possible,

and then occasionally, we'll have a scene

that's gritty

and it's dramatic

and kind of scary and then we'll have the most

ridiculous script underneath.

And that juxtaposition we love.

We shot on the Universal back lot.

Sometimes, we'd come to work and we're like,

what the hell?

Cranes and joists, it's like well how...

Is Comedy Central paying for this?

Is this coming out of my pocket?

So you feel everyday like you're showing up

on a movie set,

which makes you feel, for me,

makes me feel like an actor

more than...

I'm not a comic.

It's like we're actors, trying to create this world

and then the humor allows itself to exist

in the context of the world.

For each of you, is there one that you go back to,

like this was really the pinnacle.

This, for me, was the sublime, platonic ideal of--

I know I'm gonna speak for both of us

but I feel like there's something so special

to me about the first pizza order scene.

That's me, that's me.

And there's something about the acting in it,

the humor is clear and subtle and exactly the same time.

And it's a perfect amalgamation of everything we want

Key & Peele to be.

It's interesting too because

that's one of the few sketches

where we weren't...

We shot them on separate days.

And we weren't together.

Our two parts, I shot my bit first

and then he shot his.

But that one came together.

I'm a huge fan of...

We came out of the gate with that bitch scene.

That to me is kind of...

I think it's just perfectly puts our voice in a scene,

as far as kinda showing the comedy more than you

telling the comedy or explaining it.

There's different layers in there,

like a big club sandwich.

Big old Dagwood special.

I respect both of your opinion,

but the correct answer is actually Liam Neeson.

(hollering)

That is the correct answer.

Guys, thank you so much for being here.

Key & Peele season three starts September 18th.
